In recognition of International Women’s Day happening on 8
March 2022, Raffles Jakarta and Veuve Clicquot celebrate the resilience of Jakarta’s underprivileged women with a special collaboration with JKT.Creative.
Founded by Iwet Ramadhan in 2019, JKT.Creative aims to empower the community bybridging the gap between the creative professionals and subsidised housing (rusun) residents. The renowned radio announcer and batik designer is actively working with 40 women from five subsidised housings in Jakarta, training them to sew and craft. A myriad of products such as shirts, bags and handicrafts have been retailed in selected stores and the profit goes back to support the Ibu-Ibu Rusun and their families.
Recognising the mounting problem of hotel textile waste in Jakarta, JKT.Creative offers a solution by collaborating with businesses to upcycle their textile and prevent the waste
to reach the landfill. Currently, from 57 percent of waste in Jakarta, 8.2 percent is made of textile waste.
Together with Raffles Jakarta, JKT.Creative launches its pilot project, an upcycling fashion product made from the hotel’s linen. “Our current objective is to tackle Jakarta’s hotel textile waste problem while raising the public’s awareness and appreciation toward upcycling fashion, with a collaboration project with Ibu Rusun and JKT creative.” says Iwet. The initiative also demonstrates Accor’s Planet 21 commitment to provide a positive hospitality experience. “By collaborating with JKT.Creative through the Sustainable Staycation programme, Raffles Jakarta reinforces its commitments to involve our customers, innovate with our partners, and work with local communities,” adds Mirah Marhaendra, Director of Marketing Communications of Raffles Jakarta.
The Champagne house’s own history of woman leadership mirrors this collaborative initiative. Founded by Madame Clicquot Ponsardin who took over her husband’s wine business when widowed at 27, the “Grande Dame of Champagne’s” entrepreneurial spirit and audacious innovation revolutionised the Champagne industry. More than two centuries later, the house remains committed to support female leadership and entrepreneurial journey through Bold by Veuve Clicquot programme. Created in 1972, it has honoured more than 350 women in 270 countries through Veuve Clicquot Bold Woman Award and Bold Conversations platform.
“A homage to Madame Clicquot, the programme is designed to support female entrepreneurs, gives them a voice, and encouraging future female leaders to be even more audacious on their endeavours. We are very pleased to be able to support Raffles Jakarta and the impactful work of JKT.Creative,” states Alistair Toyne, Senior Trade Marketing Manager of Moët Hennessy Indonesia.
